Brevard County's Fun Port on Florida's Space Coast
Tuesday June 19, 2018
One of Florida's Space Coast most prominent destinations is Port Canaveral which is adjacent to Cocoa Beach and Kennedy Space Center. Brevard County visitors often depart on ocean cruises and fishing trips while visiting the Central Florida area from Port Canaveral. You'll find locals frequent the waterfront restaurants and bars each weekend to catch up with friends and dance to the home grown bands while sipping their favorite beverage and sampling the native seafood catch.
Visitors often ask what's their to do and where to dine while visiting the Space Coast and Port Canaveral? While the nightlife comes together more on weekends from Friday and Saturday nights, the restaurants enjoy weekday dining opportunities in a more peaceful and family friendly environment.
Several years ago the Port started a community of adjacent restaurants and formed "The Cove" as a consumer dining, shopping and recreation area. The cove is located directly on the waterfront on Glen Cheek Drive and presently contains five main restaurants and a couple of smaller deli's. Starting from the west and heading east there is Milliken's Reef, Rusty's Seafood, Baja's Grill, Fish Lips and ending at the far east of The Cove next to Freddy Patrick Park and it's boat ramps is Joe Penovich's Restaurant simply called Grills.
The finest dining experience most notably Milliken's Reef, but most locals will tell you it's not the food that makes Milliken better, it's their newer facilities and tiki bar. The biggest bang for your buck is probably either Fish Lips or Grills and while Rusty's has it's daily buffet, it's priced a little higher and has similar table fare.
One dining place not mentioned yet is The Smokehouse where Wes and Jackie prepare great lunches and serve up wraps, sandwiches and other smoked delicacies for mid-day diners. Other places of business in the Cove are the Sunrise Marina, Seafood Atlantic, Brown's Taxidermy, and Wild Ocean Seafood which support the local fishing fleet with their services and wholesale.
To date there are at least four cruse-lines out of Port Canaveral. Carnival Cruise-lines, Norwegian Cruise lines, Disney Ships, Royal Caribbean and the daily gambling boat Victory Day Cruise that simply putts three miles out to let passengers legally gamble.
If you have children, the Disney Cruise-line can not be rivaled in it's service and activities. Children are encouraged to have fun and explore while mom and dad relax. However if you are looking for a getaway with a significant other the Norwegian or Royal Caribbean will be your better choices while Carnival will be the less expensive and budget minded cruise ship for family.
Freight and Cargo at Port Canaveral
Recently, Port Canaveral's managers and politicians have been ramping up their capabilities to attract more and more freight and cargo including liquids, refrigerated and container cargo. While Port Canaveral is a relatively small Port in comparison to others, it's strategic location on Florida's east coast near Orlando makes it ideal for supplying much of the Florida's growing population.
I'm Captain Richard Bradley and I'm a charter fisherman out of Port Canaveral on Florida's Space Coast. Living here all my life and watching the Port change from a small fishing port with a large fleet of shrimp boats to a world class cruise and freight destination has been astounding to watch how fast and effectively our Port has grown.
When you come to visit our beautiful Space Coast, please look us up for a fishing trip and find out what an exciting day on the water with a friend or family member can be about.

June 2018 Orlando Fishing Report
June is the beginning of something great in Central Florida's Orlando area... SUMMER! It's HOT it's wet and the fishing is FUN in the Atlantic Ocean. Huge king mackerel with smattering of cobia, jacks, bonito can be caught while live baiting reefs and wrecks. Other species such as red snapper and grouper can be caught further offshore and the silver king or tarpon can be sought after near the beaches. It's a smorgasborg of fun east of Orlando, Florida for the angler looking to get away for a day of ocean fishing.

Lagooner Fishing Guides Review / Facebook
Inshore and Offshore Charter Fishing near Orlando and Cocoa Beach, Florida. Catch redfish, sea trout, tarpon, snook and many other saltwater gamefish aboard the world famous Lagooner flats fishing boat with renowned Captain Richard Bradley.
A very knowledgeable guide and knows the area waters well. We were on big reds and trout within minutes of the leaving the dock and ventured about the lagoon to catch different species. The scenery in the Lagoon is remarkable!
Richard’s boat was well equipped with good equipment, he was well prepared to adapt to the different types of fishing through out the day. My primary focus was sight fishing for big reds on fly - the flies that Capt. Richard provided were right on!
Booking the charter was a breeze, his wife Capt. Gina was very accommodating to work me in (thank you Capt. Gina).
Capt. Richard seemed to know who was hungry at the right times – and we had some impressive catches! Well done Capt. Richard, and thanks for a great day on the water!
