Best Fishing Trips

Florida's Space Coast Top Angling Adventures

Sunday January 21, 2018

Florida's Central East Coast or Brevard County, labeled the "Space Coast" has several great fishing destinations for anglers looking for alternative methods, times, species and places. We've ranked our top fishing trips for anglers looking for variety when they head our direction looking for their next fishing trip.

Sebastian Inlet Snook Drifting

Sebastian Inlet marks the southern most boundary of Florida's Space Coast with The Treasure Coast on the south side of the inlet and Brevard County on the north side. Anglers can find a good bite almost all year around when the winds, waves and tides cooperate as this inlet has a treacherous reputation for swamping boats and monster sharks. An experienced Fishing Guide is very important to determine if Sebastian Inlet's timing is correct.

Snook & Redish are the most sought after fish while drifting the inlet, but there are large varieties of other gamefish too.

Mosquito Lagoon Sight Fishing

Slight tidal ebbs and flows make this shallow water lagoon an attraction for sight-fishing. Three main species of shallow water species make this a mecca of world renowned fishing targeting redfish, spotted sea trout and black drum. Bring polarized sunglasses to cut the glare on the clear water and let your guide show you where they are...

"Look at two o'clock, forty feet... There's a cruising redfish going right to left" as an excited fishing guide calls out directions for the next cast
Sight fishing is not for the beginner, but it's as exciting as fishing gets and the World Famous Mosquito Lagoon offers the best sightfishing opportunities on the Space Coast.

Port Canaveral King fish

If you ask an experienced charter fishing Captain out of Port Canaveral "What's the most fun fishing?", you'll probably get one of two answers; "Sight Fishing for Cobia" or "King Mackerel Fishing". Both fishing world class fisheries on the Space Coast, but the most consistent of the two is probably the "Smoker" sized king fish that make long exciting runs on medium tackle.

A day out of Canaveral during the warmer months is your best bet and offers anglers a chance to catch some impressive sized king fish. Live baiting kings is by far the most productive, but let your Captain determine what's working and you'll usually not go wrong. Fishing for kings is a must when you're visiting the Space Coast and going in the ocean is a bonus that makes the trip that much more enjoyable.

Whichever Fishing Trip makes more sense to you when you're visiting the Space Coast, we can usually make it happen depending on weather and conditions. Ask about one of these destinations and types of fishing when you call to book your trip and we'll see if we can make it happen.

Beating the Drum

Massive Schools of Giant Fish Swarm the Space Coast

This winter has been unusually warm on the east coast of Florida near Cocoa Beach and Brevard County as giant schools of spawning Black Drum have invaded our coastline. Kayakers and boaters have been pursuing these schools that can often be seen from the beach and caught by the typical lawn chair fisherman with their surf rods and coolers.

Although edible, these large specimens are not generally considered table fare and are caught-and-released to continue their courtship and mating rituals. Captain Richard took his clients to catch these monster fish this winter and took a couple of days with his daughter Mekenzie and wife Gina to witness this marine spectacle and try to subdue a beast of a fish.

Great couple of days off Cocoa Beach with his wife and teenage daughter, Captain Richard shows the world how the schools look from a drone while they spawn very close to the coastline.

This is one of our family favorites for fresh kingfish.

  • 1-1/2 Cup Mayonnaise
  • 1 Cup Fresh Graded Parmasian Cheese
  • 1 Entire Clove of Garlic
  • 2 Tablespoons of Taragon
  • 1 Cup Pepperage Farm Stuffing

Lay the fish in baking dish. Mix together first 4 ingredients and rub on top and bottom of fish. Sprinkle Pepperage farm stuffing over top of fish. Bake at 425 for 20 minutes or until fish is done.

Captain Gina's Bikinis

Spring is in the air and so is soaking up the sunshine in Florida. Captain Gina picks out her favorite bikinis for this years romps on the beach and in the boat.

I don't know what it is, but I know deep within me that bikinis were meant to be small

I have three basic bikinis that I wear almost all year around for different occasions, explains Gina.  What I wear when I'm out surfing, out on the boat with my husband and by the pool with my friends.  I never get criticism for wearing too small of a bikini from the guys and most of my girlfriends want to know where I bought them.
When I'm out with my friends, I wear several different brands of bikinis from Roxy to Victoria's Secret and even a local shop MarChicita which offers my fullest coverage bikini that many still consider revealing. Let's face it, the kids don't need to see it all when I'm hanging by the pool, but I simply can't wear a one piece even when they're coming back in style, it's too constricting and I besides I feel great in my bikinis.

Surfing Bikinis

Surfing has been a passion of mine for several years and more sports oriented bikini means the straps must hold the gals in while I'm duck-diving or going over the falls.  I don't worry too much about the bottoms when I'm paddling out, I like my tan lines to be as small as possible while still covering up.  Surfing is such a beautiful sport and while I'm not the best surfer, I like wearing my bikini whether I'm out with my daughters or surfing with my husband and our friends.  Everyone needs to feel sexy and free when they're doing what they love.  Most of the Roxy and Billabong bikini's work great for surfing.

Casual Bikinis

Florida is made for pool parties, even in the winter when hot tubs are popular.  I like a less "Sport" oriented bikini and a little more "Sporty" to show off my figure when I'm lounging around with friends.  lately, my friends Joan and Christine have turned me onto online shopping at where an affordable assortment of sunbathing wear can be found.  I also like the popular and more expensive Victoria's Secret, but honestly you can't beat a good beat around bikini found at popular department stores like Macy's.  If I find a bikini that looks good on the rack, I'm buying it and it's making a showing at our next poolside party.

Risque Bikini

Last but not least (well, maybe it is the least) is the bikinis I wear out in the boat with my hubby.  It's always fun to let it all hang out with my lover and friend and wear as little of bikini as I can find.  Captain Richard can't wait to take me out when he knows that I'll be wearing something tantalizing and sexy, besides I get more fishing time when he's looking forward to our next outing.  My favorite all time shopping experience for fishing bikinis is at out of Australia.  I feel great in these bikinis and I know I'll get some extra attention when I'm wearing them.

Fishing Reports

January - 2018 Fishing Report

The Banana River comes alive during the colder months of year and January is the peak season for deep hole trout, redfish and juvenile black drum. We've been fishing the deeper canals and slews with success during the cold fronts when the water is cold and also catching some great sized fish on the flats adjacent to these holes. Look for the Banana River to improve as the winter gets colder and the fish transition to their winter haunts in pursuit of cold, stable water. Look for mature fish to seek warmth on the shallow shorelines nearby.

Fishing Forecast

January - 2018 Fishing Forecast

Is it going to be an Indian Summer this January or possibly a deep freeze Polar Vortex? These are the questions that all fishing guides want to know. Depending on how this winter plays out with temperatures, winds and other conditions will dictate how our fishing will pan out in January. Unless the water is churned up by high winds, January will produce some of the cleanest and clearest water of the year in Central Florida as colder water kills of plankton life in the lagoons and mild northeast winds often push in clearer water in the ocean. Look for great inshore fishing in the Mosquito Lagoon and Northern end of the Indian River toward Titusville. If the winds and water are all frothed up it can be a crap shoot for fishing in almost every inshore locations and will shutdown all offshore fishing due to small craft warnings and safety warnings. However, between fronts, look for some of the best fishing of the year in January both inshore and offshore in Central Florida.

Inshore and Offshore Charter Fishing near Orlando and Cocoa Beach, Florida. Catch redfish, sea trout, tarpon, snook and many other saltwater gamefish aboard the world famous Lagooner flats fishing boat with renowned Captain Richard Bradley.

Had the best day fishing off Cocoa Beach with Capt. Richard while we were docked in Port Canaveral for the day from the Norwegian Gem. Capt. Gina was so helpful in planning our trip months ahead and even came right to the boat and picked us up when we pulled into Port! We caught some beautiful King Mackerel and had many laughs. I would recommend Lagooner to EVERYONE. If we ever get back down there, we'll definitely go again.
