Beachline Highway 528

Florida's Space Coast Highway to the Beaches

Thursday April 27, 2017

The quickest way to get from the Orlando to Brevard County's Cocoa beach is on State Road 528 or "The Beachline" formally "The Beeline". Visitors coming to our area are often astounded at the amount of tolls between the Orlano International Airport and The Space Coast's Brevard County on the Beachline but it's generally considered worth the pocket change to cut additional time and make it easy and less congested for the driver to get to and from the coastline to Orlando.

As you enter Brevard County on SR 528 you'll cross the St. Johns River and several miles later take two magnificent jumps across the beautiful saltwater lagoons called the Indian River and Banana River before entering Cape Canaveral where 528 turns southward and is relabeled A1A as it follows the Florida coastline.

Over the years this State Road has changed from short stints of highway to the long 55 mile corridor to the Atlantic coastline. "When I was a child my dad took our old VW on the leg being constructed to the St. Johns River from Cocoa to explore in the late 1960's and shortly afterward the construction was done and we found a new way of traversing from one O'Town to Merritt Island where we resided." explains Captain Richard Bradley of Lagooner Fishing Charters. No longer did people have to go north to SR 50 in Titusville or follow SR 520 which connected you to SR 50 at Bithlo. It was a game changer for people going to the coast and Brevard residents going to do their business in Orlando.

The quickest and closest route from Orlando to the beach is State Road 528 known as The Beachline running directly east from Orlando International Airport.
